The Sail India 2021 which is a Senior Nationals Ranking Event was hosted by the Army Yachting held between 9th to 15th December at Chowpatty Girgaon, Mumbai. This was a multi-class event comprising of 49er, 49er FX, ILCA 7, ILCA 6, 470 Mixed, RS:X Men, RS:X Women, iQFOiL and Nacra 17. A total of 68 boats participated from various clubs across India
The Opening ceremony saw the presence of the young and dynamic Aditya Thackeray, minister for Tourism, Govt. of Maharashtra, who declared the event open and interacted with the participants.
The PRO was Col. Staish Kanwar, Chairman of the Protest Committee was Brig. G. Julka and Chairman of the Technical Committee was Mr. Ajit Diaz – our very own founder member of TNSA.
Ishwarya, Sachin and Lepakshi attended the racing rules classes conducted by Brig. Julka on 7th and 8th Dec.
The participants from TNSA were Ishwarya on RS:X, Lepakshi on ILCA 6 and young Sachin on the iQFOiL. The wind conditions were from light to medium throughout the event. On all dy the races were started post 1400 hrs to coincide with the wind conditions apt for sailing. Lepakshi finished with a commendable 5th position while Ishwarya was place 1st and Sachin 2nd in their respective classes.
The wind speed gradually increased over the days and on the last day it was close to 12 knots. Tidal conditions were prominent and made an impact in a few races. 12 races were completed after 5 days of racing. “We had many variations in every race - such as good races with bad starts, bad races with good starts, gaining in upwind, losing in downwind, capsizes and much more” said Ishwarya.
There was also a surprise visit from TNSA Secretary Ms. Nilma Shah during the event
which
was
indeed a morale booster. TNSA is also grateful to Mrs. Ganesh for being present as a support
parent for
the
entire event.
