Asian Sailing Championship 2022 – Abu Dhabi

The Asian Sailing Championship 2022 was a grand success with 18 countries participating in 10 disciplines comprising of Men and Women’s category in 5 classes of Boats. This event was held between 27 th Feb to 6 th March 2022 at the well laid out premises of Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.

Though the winds were disappointing on some days it was however a challenge for heavier sailors to compete and test their skills.

The Indian team did well by bagging the following Medals:
Three Golds – 49er, ILCA 7 & ILCA 4 (W);
Three silver – ILCA 6, ILCA 4 (M) & RS:X women;
Three Bronze – 49er, ILCA 4 (W) & RS:X (M)

This event was a good experience for our sailors since many who competed were participants from Asian Games and Olympics!

It was also heartening to see the physical presence of Captain Jitendra Dixit, Hon Jt. Sec. Gen. Yachting Association of India at the venue every day and his words of encouragement to all participants which played a key role in boosting the morale of our sailors.

We also had Mr Ajit Diaz and Mr. Balachander, both IMS from our very own TNSA, who where appointed as Technical Committee for this prestigious event.

There was a good representation from TNSA and team did well. Varun and Ganapathy in the 49er won the Gold, Nethra on ILCA 6 won the Silver, Ishwarya on RS:X won the Silver, young Sachin did extremely well in the iQFOiL class and reached a commendable 8 th position, Chitresh who rode the Formula Kite for the very first time was placed 4 th !

This event was also an Asian Games qualifier event for Indian participants with double points in YAI ranking system.

Congratulations to all the sailors from TNSA, you have done us proud!
